I mentioned before that Lila has become quite the character. This weekend we got a couple funny videos of her. The first is of her dancing. We have all sorts of music stations as part of our cable TV. We always put them on instead of the regular TV as she will try to sit and watch a TV show. She still watches the music channels, but it's just photos of the artist who is playing. She's really gettin' her groove on to this Maroon 5 song.

The second one is of her cleaning Manolo (aka Noli). She got a little cloth and was cleaning him off with it. She's been doing it to Roman and I as well. She'll wipe our mouths and hands.

Mama again

So when Lila first started talking she said Mama. She still says it, but only when someone else says it first. She'll say Dada and Nana randomly, but rarely ever Mama. Whenever she says "Dada" Roman always tries to respond and I do the same with "Mama", so she'll learn who is who. I was in the shower today after I got back from the gym and Lila came in the bathroom, pointed at me, and said "Mama"! It was so exciting for me! That's the first time she's done that. That's my highlight for the day.

This video is just her being goofy. At the end you'll see a glimpse of what poor Manolo has to contend with.

Just thought I'd share some new photos and video. Lila has been quite the handful lately! She's pushing all the boundaries (read: getting quite a few time outs) and definitely has a mind of her own. The poor dog is getting the worst of it. She is constantly pulling on his legs, tail, or hair. The other day she bit his ear, luckily it wasn't very hard. Roman and I will pat Manolo on the back and I think she's trying to mimic that, but she just ends up hitting him on the head. It's hard to tell her no, because she doesn't understand so we've just been trying to get her to be more gentle. She's still more cranky than usual, but I imagine that's still from the teeth. One of her molars has come in and one of her front teeth broke the surface as well. That just leaves the other four! Hopefully once these teeth come we'll get a good long break from teething.

She's been dancing up a storm lately too. Sooner or later I'm going to get some video. It's so funny, she tries to snap her fingers and will even try to dance while she's in her carseat.

We got her some new toys this weekend, and a new doll. It's the first lifesize doll she's gotten and she loves it!

Trip to MN in Dec

I know this is really early notification, but we are going to come to MN for Christmas this year. I had been checking the airfare regularly and it just went down nearly $200, so rather than risk it going back up we booked our tickets. We decided to come this year because Lila can still travel on our laps. Once she turns 2 we will have to buy her her own seat.

We are coming in on xmas eve in the afternoon and will leave that following Tuesday morning, the 30th.

Back to the doctor

Lila woke up with a fever this morning, and it just kept getting higher. 101 at 8:30 so I gave her some Tylenol. At 10 it was up to 102, and then at 11:30 I gave her a lukewarm bath and took it again. It was 103 so I gave her some Motrin, which seemed to help. Because of Lila's urinary reflux her pediatrician wanted to see her so he could get a urine sample and make sure it wasn't another UTI. They used a catheter to get the urine, which as once might imagine, went over like a lead balloon with Lila. They usually do an in-office test to check for bacteria and then send the rest of the urine out to have it checked more thouroughly. The sample he got was very small, so he didn't want to do the in-office test for fear there wouldn't be enough to do the other. He said he didn't think it was a UTI though. She's been teething and this morning I noticed that her top canine teeth are coming in, in addition to her bottom two molars. Well the Dr said that her top two molars are coming as well. So she is getting six teeth at once! That could be part of the problem, but it wouldn't really account for her fever being so high. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. She may just have a virus.

She goes outside in her pjs with me each morning so I can water the plants. She wanted to help.

The moms group I belong to had a garage sale a couple months ago and I got these shoes for her. I know, I know, they look like boy shoes, but they were brand new from Baby Gap, and so cute. I think she looks like such a big girl in this outfit. I took a video of her because she was clopping around in the shoes. They have hard rubber soles, unlike all the shoes she's had so far which have had soft soles. She kept looking down at her feet and then she noticed that they made noise when she walked so she kept clopping along. In the video I ask her if she's "clopping" and she thinks I said clapping, so she starts clapping. Funny girl!

4th of July

Our 4th was fairly uneventful. We met some friends at a parade in the morning, but Lila got tired so we only made it through a short bit before we left to go home. In the afternoon we went to Grana Nana's house and had a little bbq. Lila slept through all the fireworks going off in the neighborhood, and there were a lot of them. That was it. Spent the rest of the weekend relaxing, running errands, and then went to church yesterday.

We have been having a really hard time leaving Lila in the church nursery. She cries and cries and is usually still upset when we go to pick her up. The church we had been going to only had one worker in each of the nursery rooms and there was no way that person could handle upset Lila while dealing with the other babies. We just started going to a new church and they have a great nursery there, with several workers in each room. When we went to pick her up after church this time she was actually doing okay. She was sitting at the little picnic table eating cheerios. As soon as she saw us she jumped up and started crying again, as if saying, "now I remember, you left me here!" The 20 cheerios that were in her lap fell to the floor, but in the midst of her crying she managed to shove the couple she had in her hand into her mouth. She's quite the character! We're hoping that if we stay consistent and bring her every week it'll get better.

She likes to sit in this corner and play. The other day she barricaded herself in. She kept dragging more and more things over and then plopped herself down to survey her work.

Water park

I mentioned in a previous post that we were going to go to one of the water parks in Galveston this week. We went on Tuesday with Lila's aunts, Ellen and Teri, and Ellen's two girls, Gabi and Sofie. There was a lot to do there--one big pool, another smaller "lagoon", an area with sprinkler/mister type stuff, and an area with water slides. Most all of it is surrounded by beach chairs and umbrellas on sand, so it feels like you are at the beach. Lila wasn't really sure what to think at first, but she ended up having a good time. The thing Lila enjoyed the most was playing in the sand. I forgot to bring toys for her, oops, but she was content with this cup and the sand. She just kept putting handfuls of sand in the cup until it got full. Then we'd dump it out for her and she'd start again. When I was feeding her lunch I wasn't doing so fast enough and I guess she got frustrated, so she got too big handfuls of sand and stuck it all in her mouth. It was awful! I was too concerned with getting the sand out of her mouth to think to get the camera. I'm sure it would have been a funny picture. Here's a short video of her filling up the cup...
